The Battle Between The Rats And The Weazles Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGHIJKKK

In dire Contest the Rats and Weazles metA
And Foot to Foot and Point to Point was setA
An ancient Quarrel had such Hatred wroughtB
That for Revenge as for Renown they foughtB
Now bloody was the Day and hard the StrifeC
Wherein bold Warriors lost neglected LifeC
But as some Errors still we must commitD
Nor Valour always ballanc'd is by WitD
Among the Rats some Officers appear'dE
With lofty Plumage on their Foreheads rear'dE
Unthinking they and ruin'd by their PrideF
For when the Weazles prov'd the stronger SideF
A gen'ral Rout befell and a RetreatG
Was by the Vanquish'd now implor'd of FateH
To slender Crannies all repair'd in hasteI
Where easily the undress'd Vulgar pastJ
But when the Rats of Figure wou'd have fledK
So wide those branching Marks of Honour spreadK
The Feather in the Cap was fatal to the HeadK
