| A wrangling and reproving Wife had got | A |
| Who tho' she curb'd his Pleasures and his Food | B |

| Ills to prevent She of all Ills the worst | D |
| So wisely Froward and so kindly Curst | D |
| The Servants too experiment her Lungs | E |
| And find they've Breath to serve a thousand Tongues | E |
| Nothing went on for her eternal Clack | F |
| Still rectifying set all Matters back | F |
| Nor Town nor Neighbours nor the Court cou'd please | G |
| But furnish'd Matter for her sharp Disease | G |
| To distant Plains at length he gets her down | H |
| With no Affairs to manage of her own | I |
| Hoping from that unactive State to find | D |
| A calmer Habit grown upon her Mind | D |
| But soon return'd he hears her at his Door | J |
| As noisy and tempestuous as before | J |
| Yet mildly ask'd How she her Days had spent | D |
| Amidst the Quiet of a sweet Content | D |
| Where Shepherds 'tend their Flocks and Maids their Pails | K |
| And no harsh Mistress domineers or rails | K |
| Not rail she cries Why I that had no share | L |
| In their Concerns cou'd not the Trollops spare | L |
| But told 'em they were Sluts And for the Swains | K |
| My Name a Terror to them still remains | K |
| So often I reprov'd their slothful Faults | K |
| And with such Freedom told 'em all my Thoughts | K |
| That I no more amongst them cou'd reside | D |
| Has then alas the Gentleman reply'd | D |
| One single Month so much their patience try'd | D |
| Where you by Day and but at Seasons due | D |
| Cou'd with your Clamours their Defects pursue | D |
| How had they shrunk and justly been afraid | D |
| Had they with me one Curtain Lecture heard | D |
| Yet enter Madam and resume your Sway | M |
| Who can't Command must silently Obey | M |
| In secret here let endless Faults be found | D |
| Till like Reformers who in States abound | D |
| You all to Ruin bring and ev'ry Part confound | D |
