Psalm The 137th Paraphras'd To The 7th Verse Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACC DEFEGH IJIJKK LMNMOO

Proud Babylon Thou saw'st us weepA
Euphrates as he pass'd alongB
Saw on his Banks the Sacred ThrongB
A heavy solemn Mourning keepA
Sad Captives to thy Sons and TheeC
When nothing but our Tears were FreeC
-
A Song of Sion they requireD
And from the neighb'ring Trees to takeE
Each Man his dumb neglected LyreF
And chearful Sounds on them awakeE
But chearful Sounds the Strings refuseG
Nor will their Masters Griefs abuseH
-
How can We Lord thy Praise proclaimI
Here in a strange unhallow'd LandJ
Lest we provoke them to BlasphemeI
A Name they do not understandJ
And with rent Garments that deploreK
Above whate'er we felt beforeK
-
But Thou Jerusalem so DearL
If thy lov'd Image e'er departM
Or I forget thy Suff'rings hereN
Let my right Hand forget her ArtM
My Tongue her vocal Gift resignO
And Sacred Verse no more be mineO
