Cupid And Folly Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHHIJ HHKKHHLLMNHHOOPPQQ

CUPID ere depriv'd of SightA
Young and apt for all DelightA
Met with Folly on the wayB
As Idle and as fond of PlayB
In gay Sports the time they passC
Now run now wrestle on the GrassC
Their painted Wings then nimbly plyD
And ev'ry way for Mast'ry tryD
'Till a Contest do's ariseE
Who has won th' appointed PrizeE
Gentle Love refers the CaseF
To the next that comes in PlaceF
Trusting to his flatt'ring WilesG
And softens the Dispute with SmilesG
But Folly who no Temper knowsH
Words pursues with hotter BlowsH
'Till the eyes of Love were lostI
Which has such Pain to Mortals costJ
-
Venus hears his mournful CrysH
And repeats 'em in the SkysH
To Jupiter in Council setK
With Peers for the Occasion metK
In her Arms the Boy she bearsH
Bathing him in falling TearsH
And whilst his want of Eyes is shownL
Secures the Judges by her OwnL
Folly to the Board must comeM
And hear the Tryal and the DoomN
Which Cytherea loudly praysH
May be as heavy as the CaseH
Which when All was justly weigh'dO
Cupid's Wings now useless madeO
That a staff his Feet must guideP
Which wou'd still be apt to slideP
This Decree at last was readQ
That Love by Folly shou'd be leadQ
