Indulg'd by ev'ry active thoughtA
When upwards they wou'd flyB
Nor can Ambition be a faultC
If plac'd above the skyB
When humbld first we meekly craveD
Remission for the pastE
We from the fore tasts which we haveF
May guesse our Joys at lastE
-
Then let my Contemplation soarG
And Heav'n my Subject beH
Though low on Earth in nature poorI
Some prospect we may seeH
-
And now that scene before me standsJ
And large Possessions thereK
Where none usurps anothers LandsJ
And Theives we do not fearL
-
All Care all Sorrow all SurpriseM
Fly from that World of peaceN
Where tears are wip'd from clouded EyesM
And Sighs for ever ceaseN
-
Decay or Sicknesse find no placeO
In that untainted AirK
But still th'incorruptable FaceO
Shall as at first be fairK
-
Agility in pace or flightP
The Blessed shall conveyQ
Where e're the Lamb more fair then lightP
Shall lead the radiant wayQ
-
Whilst Praises in Seraphick SoundsR
The blisful road shall traceO
And musick seem to passe the boundsR
Even of unbounded SpaceO
-
Such balmy Odours shall disperseS
As from the Bridegroom's poresT
The holy Canticles rehearseS
Fell on the Bolts and DoorsT
-
When to his Spouse the well belov'dU
More white then Jordans FlocksV
Spake whilest her hand the Barrs remov'dW
And dew drops fill'd his locksV
-
The Crosse shall there triumphant riseM
And ev'ry Eye shall scanX
That promis'd Ensign in the skiesM
Close by the Son of ManX
-
With Christ there Charles's Crown shall meetY
Which Martirdom adornsZ
And prostrate lye beneath his feetY
My Coronet of ThornsZ
-
The Lord to whom my life is joyn'dY
For Conscience here opprestY
Shall there full retribution findY
And none his Claimes molestY
-
Hypocrisy and feign'd pretenceZ
To cover foul DissignsZ
Shall blusshing fly as far from thenceZ
As to the deepest MinesZ
-
We there shall know the use of FoesZ
Whom here we have forgivenA2
When we shall thank them for those woesZ
Which pav'd our way to HeavenA2
-
There all good things that we have mistY
With Int'rest shall returnB2
Whilst those who have each wish possestY
Shall for that fullnesse mournC2
-
There Coventry of Tufton's LineD2
For piety renown'dY
Shall in transcending virtues ShineD2
And Equally be Crown'dY
-
Around her shall the Chains be spreadY
Of Captives she has freedY
And ev'ry Mouth that she has fedY
Shall testify the deedY
-
Whilst Scools supplied to mend our youthE2
Shall on the List be shownF2
A Daughter and a Mother bothG2
In Her the Church shall ownF2
-
The Gospell crosse the seas rehearstY
By her diffusive aidY
And fifty thousand pounds dispers'dY
Shall there be largely paidY
-
My Heart by her supporting LoveH2
In all its Cares upheldY
For that to see her Crown improveI2
With transports shall be fill'dY
-
From Gratitude what graces flowJ2
What endlesse pleasures springK2
From Prayers whilst we remain belowJ2
Above whilst Praise we SingK2
-
And Mammon wert thou well employ'dY
What Mansions might be wonneF2
Whilst Woolsey's Pallace lyes destroy'dY
And Marlbrough's is not doneF2
-
Whilst to this Heav'n my Soul AspiresZ
All Suff'rings here are lightY
He travells pleas'd who but desiresZ
A Sweet Repose at NightY
