The Narrow Way Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEDE FGFG HIHI JAJA KLKL MNON PQPQ RJRJ STPT

Believe not those who sayA
The upward path is smoothB
Lest thou shouldst stumble in the wayA
And faint before the truthC
It is the only roadD
Unto the realms of joyE
But he who seeks that blest abodeD
Must all his powers employE
-
Bright hopes and pure delightsF
Upon his course may beamG
And there amid the sternest heightsF
The sweetest flowerets gleamG
-
On all her breezes borneH
Earth yields no scents like thoseI
But he that dares not grasp the thornH
Should never crave the roseI
-
Arm arm thee for the fightJ
Cast useless loads awayA
Watch through the darkest hours of nightJ
Toil through the hottest dayA
-
Crush pride into the dustK
Or thou must needs be slackL
And trample down rebellious lustK
Or it will hold thee backL
-
Seek not thy treasure hereM
Waive pleasure and renownN
The World's dread scoff undaunted bearO
And face its deadliest frownN
-
To labour and to loveP
To pardon and endureQ
To lift thy heart to God aboveP
And keep thy conscience pureQ
-
Be this thy constant aimR
Thy hope and thy delightJ
What matters who should whisper blameR
Or who should scorn or slightJ
-
What matters if thy God approveS
And if within thy breastT
Thou feel the comfort of his loveP
The earnest of his restT
