The Arbour Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHIH JKLK MCGC ENLN OPHP| I'll rest me in this sheltered bower | A |
| And look upon the clear blue sky | B |
| That smiles upon me through the trees | C |
| Which stand so thickly clustering by | B |
| And view their green and glossy leaves | D |
| All glistening in the sunshine fair | E |
| And list the rustling of their boughs | F |
| So softly whispering through the air | E |
| - | |
| And while my ear drinks in the sound | G |
| My winged soul shall fly away | H |
| Reviewing long departed years | I |
| As one mild beaming autumn day | H |
| - | |
| And soaring on to future scenes | J |
| Like hills and woods and valleys green | K |
| All basking in the summer's sun | L |
| But distant still and dimly seen | K |
| - | |
| Oh list 'tis summer's very breath | M |
| That gently shakes the rustling trees | C |
| But look the snow is on the ground | G |
| How can I think of scenes like these | C |
| - | |
| 'Tis but the frost that clears the air | E |
| And gives the sky that lovely blue | N |
| They're smiling in a winter's sun | L |
| Those evergreens of sombre hue | N |
| - | |
| And winter's chill is on my heart | O |
| How can I dream of future bliss | P |
| How can my spirit soar away | H |
| Confined by such a chain as this | P |
