The Arbour Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHIH JKLK MCGC ENLN OPHP

I'll rest me in this sheltered bowerA
And look upon the clear blue skyB
That smiles upon me through the treesC
Which stand so thickly clustering byB
And view their green and glossy leavesD
All glistening in the sunshine fairE
And list the rustling of their boughsF
So softly whispering through the airE
-
And while my ear drinks in the soundG
My winged soul shall fly awayH
Reviewing long departed yearsI
As one mild beaming autumn dayH
-
And soaring on to future scenesJ
Like hills and woods and valleys greenK
All basking in the summer's sunL
But distant still and dimly seenK
-
Oh list 'tis summer's very breathM
That gently shakes the rustling treesC
But look the snow is on the groundG
How can I think of scenes like theseC
-
'Tis but the frost that clears the airE
And gives the sky that lovely blueN
They're smiling in a winter's sunL
Those evergreens of sombre hueN
-
And winter's chill is on my heartO
How can I dream of future blissP
How can my spirit soar awayH
Confined by such a chain as thisP
