Song Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCCBDDEFFFE CCGHHHG

We know where deepest lies the snowA
And where the frost winds keenest blowA
O'er every mountain's browB
We long have known and learnt to bearC
The wandering outlaw's toil and careC
But where we late were hunted thereC
Our foes are hunted nowB
We have their princely homes and theyD
To our wild haunts are chased awayD
Dark woods and desert cavesE
And we can range from hill to hillF
And chase our vanquished victors stillF
Small respite will they find untilF
They slumber in their gravesE
-
But I would rather be the hareC
That crouching in its sheltered lairC
Must start at every soundG
That forced from cornfields waving wideH
Is driven to seek the bare hillsideH
Or in the tangled copse to hideH
Than be the hunter's houndG
