Past Days Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDDEFGFHH IJIJKK LMLMNN IOIOPP Q

'Tis strange to think there was a timeA
When mirth was not an empty nameB
When laughter really cheered the heartC
And frequent smiles unbidden cameB
And tears of grief would only flowD
In sympathy for others' woeD
When speech expressed the inward thoughtE
And heart to kindred heart was bareF
And Summer days were far too shortG
For all the pleasures crowded thereF
And silence solitude and restH
Now welcome to the weary breastH
-
Were all unprized uncourted thenI
And all the joy one spirit showedJ
The other deeply felt againI
And friendship like a river flowedJ
Constant and strong its silent courseK
For nought withstood its gentle forceK
-
When night the holy time of peaceL
Was dreaded as the parting hourM
When speech and mirth at once must ceaseL
And Silence must resume her powerM
Though ever free from pains and woesN
She only brought us calm reposeN
-
And when the blessed dawn againI
Brought daylight to the blushing skiesO
We woke and not reluctant thenI
To joyless labour did we riseO
But full of hope and glad and gayP
We welcomed the returning dayP
