Blessed be Thou for all the joyA
My soul has felt todayB
O let its memory stay with meC
And never pass awayB
I was alone for those I lovedD
Were far away from meC
The sun shone on the withered grassE
The wind blew fresh and freeC
-
Was it the smile of early springF
That made my bosom glowG
'Twas sweet but neither sun nor windH
Could raise my spirit soG
-
Was it some feeling of delightI
All vague and undefinedH
No 'twas a rapture deep and strongJ
Expanding in the mindH
-
Was it a sanguine view of lifeK
And all its transient blissL
A hope of bright prosperityC
O no it was not thisL
-
It was a glimpse of truth divineM
Unto my spirit givenN
Illumined by a ray of lightI
That shone direct from heavenN
-
I felt there was a God on highO
By whom all things were madeP
I saw His wisdom and his powerQ
In all his works displayedP
-
But most throughout the moral worldR
I saw his glory shineM
I saw His wisdom infiniteS
His mercy all divineM
-
Deep secrets of his providenceT
In darkness long concealedU
Were brought to my delighted eyesV
And graciously revealedU
-
But while I wondered and adoredW
His wisdom so divineM
I did not tremble at his powerQ
I felt that God was mineM
-
I knew that my Redeemer livedX
I did not fear to dieO
Full sure that I should rise againY
To immortalityC
-
I longed to view that bliss divineM
Which eye hath never seenZ
To see the glories of his faceA2
Without the veil betweenZ
