Fluctuations Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEF GHGI JKJK LFLF MNMN JOJO PQPQ R| What though the sun had left my sky | A |
| To save me from despair | B |
| The blessed moon arose on high | A |
| And shone serenely there | B |
| I watched her with a tearful gaze | C |
| Rise slowly o'er the hill | D |
| While through the dim horizon's haze | C |
| Her light gleamed faint and chill | D |
| - | |
| I thought such wan and lifeless beams | E |
| Could ne'er my heart repay | F |
| For the bright sun's most transient gleams | E |
| That cheered me through the day | F |
| - | |
| But as above that mist's control | G |
| She rose and brighter shone | H |
| I felt her light upon my soul | G |
| But now that light is gone | I |
| - | |
| Thick vapours snatched her from my sight | J |
| And I was darkling left | K |
| All in the cold and gloomy night | J |
| Of light and hope bereft | K |
| - | |
| Until methought a little star | L |
| Shone forth with trembling ray | F |
| To cheer me with its light afar | L |
| But that too passed away | F |
| - | |
| Anon an earthly meteor blazed | M |
| The gloomy darkness through | N |
| I smiled yet trembled while I gazed | M |
| But that soon vanished too | N |
| - | |
| And darker drearier fell the night | J |
| Upon my spirit then | O |
| But what is that faint struggling light | J |
| Is it the Moon again | O |
| - | |
| Kind Heaven increase that silvery gleam | P |
| And bid these clouds depart | Q |
| And let her soft celestial beam | P |
| Restore my fainting heart | Q |
| - | |
