A Hymn Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFAF GAGA HIHI JGJG KIKI LMLM NONO IPIQ RKRK SGSG

Eternal power of earth and airA
Unseen yet seen in all aroundB
Remote but dwelling everywhereA
Though silent heard in every soundB
If e'er thine ear in mercy bentC
When wretched mortals cried to theeD
And if indeed thy Son was sentC
To save lost sinners such as meD
-
Then hear me now while kneeling hereE
I lift to thee my heart and eyeF
And all my soul ascends in prayerA
O give me give me Faith I cryF
-
Without some glimmering in my heartG
I could not raise this fervent prayerA
But O a stronger light impartG
And in thy mercy fix it thereA
-
While Faith is with me I am blestH
It turns my darkest night to dayI
But while I clasp it to my breastH
I often feel it slide awayI
-
Then cold and dark my spirit sinksJ
To see my light of life departG
And every fiend of Hell methinksJ
Enjoys the anguish of my heartG
-
What shall I do if all my loveK
My hopes my toil are cast awayI
And if there be no God aboveK
To hear and bless me when I prayI
-
If this be vain delusion allL
If death be an eternal sleepM
And none can hear my secret callL
Or see the silent tears I weepM
-
O help me God for thou aloneN
Canst my distracted soul relieveO
Forsake it not it is thine ownN
Though weak yet longing to believeO
-
O drive these cruel doubts awayI
And make me know that thou art GodP
A Faith that shines by night and dayI
Will lighten every earthly loadQ
-
If I believe that Jesus diedR
And waking rose to reign aboveK
Then surely Sorrow Sin and PrideR
Must yield to peace and hope and loveK
-
And all the blessed words he saidS
Will strength and holy joy impartG
A shield of safety o'er my headS
A spring of comfort in my heartG
