To The Superior Animal Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KLKL MNMN OPOP

To sum up all I'm old and that'sA
A fact the years decideB
It is a common thing with catsA
And not a thing to hideB
-
But to feel what it is how kindC
How true to love and lawD
For this you must be quite resignedC
And not avoid its pawD
-
It does not come as reckless foeE
A shrinking prey to takeF
But with soft footstep that we knowE
By comfort in its wakeF
-
Though it spoils something that is trueG
Which we must learn to lackH
And takes alike from me and youG
What never does come backH
-
It caters for our failing strengthI
In many a dainty scrapJ
And gently lays us at our lengthI
In some secluded lapJ
-
It may bless you I think it shouldK
Beyond what I make outL
With things perhaps too great and goodK
For cats to talk aboutL
-
Since I find in it blessing freeM
From all it can destroyN
And so its progress is to meM
A miracle of joyN
-
But my look out to occupyO
And make the most of thatP
You must be quite as old as IO
If not yourself a CatP
