My heart is resting O my GodA
I will give thanks and singB
My heart is at the secret sourceC
Of every precious thingB
Now the frail vessel Thou hast madeD
No hand but Thine shall fillE
For the waters of the Earth have failedF
And I am thirsty stillE
-
I thirst for springs of heavenly lifeG
And here all day they riseH
I seek the treasure of Thy loveI
And close at hand it liesH
And a new song is in my mouthJ
To long loved music setK
Glory to Thee for all the graceL
I have not tasted yetK
-
Glory to Thee for strength withheldM
For want and weakness knownN
And the fear that sends me to Thy breastO
For what is most my ownN
I have a heritage of joyP
That yet I must not seeQ
But the hand that bled to make it mineR
Is keeping it for meQ
-
There is a certainty of loveI
That sets my heart at restO
A calm assurance for todayS
That to be poor is bestO
A prayer reposing on His truthT
Who hath made all things mineR
That draws my captive will to HimU
And makes it one with ThineR
-
I will give thanks for suffering nowV
For want and toil and lossW
For the death that sin makes hard and slowX
Upon my Savior s crossW
Thanks for the little spring of loveI
That gives me strength to sayS
If they will leave me part in HimU
Let all things pass awayS
-
Sometimes I long for promised blissY
But it will not come too lateZ
And the songs of patient spirits riseH
From the place wherein I waitZ
While in the faith that makes no hasteA2
My soul has time to seeQ
A kneeling host of Thy redeemedB2
In fellowship with meQ
-
There is a multitude aroundC2
Responsive to my prayerD2
I hear the voice of my desireE2
Resounding everywhereD2
But the earnest of eternal joyP
In every prayer I traceL
I see the glory of the LordF2
On every chastened faceL
-
How oft in still communion knownN
Those spirits have been sentG2
To share the travail of my soulH2
Or show me what it meantG2
And I long to do some work of loveI
No spoiling hand could touchI2
For the poor and suffering of Thy flockJ2
Who comfort me so muchI2
-
But the yearning thought is mingled nowV
With the thankful song I singB
For Thy people know the secret sourceC
Of every precious thingB
The heart that ministers for TheeQ
In Thy own work will restO
And the subject spirit of a childK2
Can serve Thy children bestO
-
Mine be the reverent listening loveI
That waits all day on TheeQ
With the service of a watchful heartL2
Which no one else can seeQ
The faith that in a hidden wayS
No other eye may knowX
Finds all its daily work preparedM2
And loves to have it soX
-
My heart is resting O my GodA
My heart is in Thy careD2
I hear the voice of joy and healthN2
Resounding everywhereD2
Thou art my portion saith my soulH2
Ten thousand voices sayS
And the music of their glad AmenO2
Will never die awayS
