Voronezh Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBCDDEFGHIJKLMNO

For Osip MandelstamA
-
And the town is frozen solid in a viceB
Trees walls snow beneath a glassC
Over crystal on slippery tracks of iceB
the painted sleighs and I together passC
And over St Peter s there are poplars crowsD
there s a pale green dome there that glowsD
dim in the sun shrouded dustE
The field of heroes lingers in my thoughtF
Kulikovo s barbarian battlegroundG
The frozen poplars like glasses for a toastH
clash now more noisily overheadI
As though it was our wedding and the crowdJ
were drinking to our health and happinessK
But Fear and the Muse take turns to guardL
the room where the exiled poet is banishedM
and the night marching at full paceN
of the coming dawn has no knowledgeO
