Rachel Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDE FBGBCH CICJKL MNONPQ RSTSUU

When Jacob and Rachel met for the first timeA
He bowed to her like a humble wayfarerB
The herds were raising hot dust to the skiesC
The little well's mouth was covered by a boulderB
He rolled the old boulder away from the wellD
And watered the flock with clean water himselfE
-
Yet sweet little sadness crept into his heartF
With each passing day growing strongerB
To wed her he bargained to toil seven yearsG
As shepherd for her artful fatherB
Oh Rachel To the captive of love in his eyesC
The seven years seemed as a few dazzling daysH
-
Yet Laban was thirsty for silver and wiseC
And mercy he didn t espouseI
Assuming forgiveness for all kind of liesC
As long as they serve his own houseJ
He took homely Leah with his sure handK
And led her to Jacob in his wedding tentL
-
-
A sultry night reigns over high desert skyM
And spreads misty dews in the morningN
While pulling her braids in despair all that nightO
The younger of sisters is moaningN
Sends curses to Leah and God for her doomP
Imploring the angel of death to come soonQ
-
As Jacob is dreaming the sweetest of dreamsR
The clear well spring in the valleyS
And Rachel's eyes happily looking at himT
Her beautiful voice singing softlyS
O weren't you kissing me Jacob with loveU
And calling me always your black turtledoveU
