STUDY IN WHITESA
Wax whiteB
Floor ceiling wallsC
Ivory shadowsD
Over the pavementE
Polished to cream surfacesF
By constant sweepingG
The big room is coloured like the petalsH
Of a great magnoliaI
And has a patinaI
Of flower bloomJ
Which makes it shine dimlyK
Under the electric lampsL
Chairs are ranged in rowsD
Like sepia seedsM
Waiting fulfilmentE
The chalk white spot of a cook s capN
Moves unglossily against the vaguely bright wallO
Dull chalk white striking the retina like a blowP
Thru the wavering uncertainty of steamQ
Vitreous white of glasses with green reflectionsR
Ice green carboys shifting greener bluer with the jar of moving waterS
Jagged green white bowls of pressed glassT
Rearing snow peaks of chipped sugarS
Above the lighthouse shaped castorsT
Of grey pepper and grey white saltE
Grey white placards Oyster Stew Cornbeef Hash FrankfurtersT
Marble slabs veined with words in meandering linesT
Dropping on the white counter like horn notesT
Through a web of violinsT
The flat yellow lights of orangesT
The cube red splashes of applesT
In high plated pergnesT
The electric clock jerks every half minuteE
Coming PastE
Three beef steaks and a chicken pieU
Bawled through a slide while the clock jerks heavilyK
A man carries a china mug of coffee to a distant chairV
Two rice puddings and a salmon saladE
Are pushed over the counterS
The unfulfilled chairs open to receive themW
A spoon falls upon the floor with the impact of metal striking stoneX
And the sound throws across the roomJ
Sharp invisible zigzagsT
Of silverS
