The Temple Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDECDE

Between us leapt a gold and scarlet flameA
Into the hollow of the cupped arched blueB
Of Heaven it rose Its flickering tongues up drewB
And vanished in the sunshine How it cameA
We guessed not nor what thing could be its nameA
From each to each had sprung those sparks which flewB
Together into fire But we knewB
The winds would slap and quench it in their gameA
And so we graved and fashioned marble blocksC
To treasure it and placed them round aboutD
With pillared porticos we wreathed the wholeE
And roofed it with bright bronze Behind carved locksC
Flowered the tall and sheltered flame WithoutD
The baffled winds thrust at a column's boleE
