Some men there are who find in nature allA
Their inspiration hers the sympathyB
Which spurs them on to any great endeavorC
To them the fields and woods are closest friendsD
And they hold dear communion with the hillsE
The voice of waters soothes them with its fallA
And the great winds bring healing in their soundF
To them a city is a prison houseG
Where pent up human forces labour and striveH
Where beauty dwells not driven forth by manI
But where in winter they must live untilJ
Summer gives back the spaces of the hillsE
To me it is not so I love the earthK
And all the gifts of her so lavish handL
Sunshine and flowers rivers and rushing windsM
Thick branches swaying in a winter stormN
And moonlight playing in a boat's wide wakeO
But more than these and much ah how much moreP
I love the very human heart of manI
Above me spreads the hot blue mid day skyQ
Far down the hillside lies the sleeping lakeO
Lazily reflecting back the sunR
And scarcely ruffled by the little breezeS
Which wanders idly through the nodding fernsT
The blue crest of the distant mountain topsU
The green crest of the hill on which I sitV
And it is summer glorious deep toned summerC
The very crown of nature's changing yearW
When all her surging life is at its fullX
To me alone it is a time of pauseY
A void and silent space between two worldsZ
When inspiration lags and feeling sleepsA2
Gathering strength for efforts yet to comeB2
For life alone is creator of lifeC2
And closest contact with the human worldD2
Is like a lantern shining in the nightE2
To light me to a knowledge of myselfF2
I love the vivid life of winter monthsG2
In constant intercourse with human mindsH2
When every new experience is gainI2
And on all sides we feel the great world's heartJ2
The pulse and throb of life which makes us menK2
