You want to know what's the matter with me do yerA
My ain't men blinder'n molesB
It ain't nothin' new be sure o' thatC
Why ef you'd had eyes you'd ha' seedD
Me changin' under your very noseE
Each day a little diff'rentF
But you never see nothin' you don'tG
Don't touch me JakeH
Don't you dars't to touch meI
I ain't in no humourA
That's what's come over meI
Jest a change clear throughA
You lay still an' I'll tell yerA
I've had it on my mind to tell yerA
Fer some timeJ
It's a strain livin' a lie from mornin' till nightK
An' I'm goin' to put an end to it right nowL
An' don't make any mistake about one thingM
When I married yer I loved yerA
Why your voice 'ud makeH
Me go hot and cold all overA
An' your kisses most stopped my heart from beatin'L
Lord I was a silly foolN
But that's the way 'twasO
Well I married yerA
An' thought Heav'n was comin'L
To set on the door stepP
Heav'n didn't do no settin'L
Though the first year warn't so badQ
The baby's fever threw you off some I guessR
An' then I took her death real hardS
An' a mopey wife kind o' disgusts a manL
I ain't blamin' yer exactlyI
But that's how 'twasO
Do lay quietT
I know I'm slow but it's harder to say 'n I thoughtU
There come a time when I got to beI
More wife agin than motherA
The mother part was sort of a wasteV
When we didn't have no other childW
But you'd got used ter lots o' thingsX
An' you was all took up with the farmY
Many's the time I've laid awakeH
Watchin' the moon go clear through the elm treeI
Out o' sightK
I'd foller yer around like a dogZ
An' set in the chair you'd be'n settin' inL
Jest to feel its arms around meI
So long's I didn't have yoursA2
It preyed on me I guessR
Longin' and longin'L
While you was busy all day and snorin' all nightK
Yes I know you're wide awake nowL
But now ain't thenL
An' I guess you'll think diff'rentF
When I'm doneL
Do you mind the day you went to HadrockZ
I didn't want to stay home for reasonsB2
But you said someone 'd have to be hereA
'Cause Elmer was comin' to see t' th' telephoneL
An' you never see why I was so set on goin' with yerA
Our married life hadn't be'n any great shakesC2
Still marriage is marriage an' I was raised God fearin'L
But Lord you didn't notice nothin'L
An' Elmer hangin' around all WinterA
'Twas a lovely mornin'L
The apple trees was jest elegantD2
With their blossoms all flared outE2
An' there warn't a cloud in the skyZ
You went you wouldn't pay no 'tention to what I saidF2
An' I heard the Ford chuggin' for most a mileG2
The air was so stillH2
Then Elmer comeI2
It's no use your frettin' JakeZ
I'll tell you all about itJ2
I know what I'm doin'L
An' what's worse I know what I doneL
Elmer fixed th' telephone in about two minitsC2
An' he didn't seem in no hurry to goZ
An' I don't know as I wanted him to go eitherA
I was awful mad at your not takin' me with yerA
An' I was tired o' wishin' and wishin'L
An' gittin' no comfortK2
I guess it ain't necessary to tell yer all the thingsC2
He stayed to dinnerA
An' he helped me do the dishesC2
An' he said a home was a fine thingZ
An' I said dishes warn't a homeL2
Nor yet the room they're inL
He said a lot o' thingsC2
An' I fended him off at firstM2
But he got talkin' all around meI
Clost up to the things I'd be'n thinkin'L
What's the use o' me goin' on JakeZ
You knowL
He got all he wantedN2
An' I give it to himO2
An' what's more I'm gladQ
I ain't dead anywayP2
An' somebody thinks I'm somethin'L
Keep away JakeZ
You can kill me to morrer if you want toA
But I'm goin' to have my sayP2
Funny thing Guess I ain't made to hold a manL
Elmer ain't be'n here for mor'n two monthsC2
I don't want to pretend nothin'L
Mebbe if he'd be'n latelyI
I shouldn't have told yerA
I'll go away in the mornin' o' courseC2
What you want the light ferA
I don't look no diff'rentF
Ain't the moon bright enoughQ2
To look at a woman that's deceived yer byZ
Don't Jake don't you can't love me nowL
It ain't a question of forgivenessC2
Why I'd be thinkin' o' Elmer ev'ry minuteT
It ain't decentD2
Oh my God It ain't decent any more either wayP2
