Pickthorn Manor: 61 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDEDCCE

His weight upon the gunwale tipped the boatA
To straining balance Everard lurched and seizedB
His wife and held her smothered to his coatA
Everard loose me we shall drown and squeezedB
Against him she beat with her hands He gaspedC
Never by God The slidden boat gave wayD
And the black foamy water split and metE
Bubbled up through the sprayD
A wailing rose and in the branches raspedC
And creaked and stilled Over the treetops claspedC
In the blue evening a clear moon was setE
