In such a night she laid the book asideA
She could outnight the poet by thinking backB
In such a night she came here as a brideA
The date was graven in the almanackB

Had Everard uncloaked her On this seatD
Had drawn her to him bade her note the treesE
How white they were and sweetD
And later coming to her her dear groomC
Her Lord had lain beside her in the gloomC
Of moon and shade and whispered her to easeE
