| And bright then flung itself out a thin blade | B |
| Of spotted lightning and its tail was winged | A |
| With chipped and sparkled sunshine And the shade | B |
| Broke up and splintered into shafts of light | C |
| Wheeling about the fish who churned the air | D |
| And made the fish line hum and bent the rod | E |
| Almost to snapping Care | D |
| The young man took against the twigs with slight | C |
| Deft movements he kept fish and line in tight | C |
| Obedience to his will with every prod | E |
