Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHICA CJKJLM ANOPJJJQRAll day long I have been working | A |
Now I am tired | B |
I call Where are you | C |
But there is only the oak tree rustling in the wind | D |
The house is very quiet | E |
The sun shines in on your books | F |
On your scissors and thimble just put down | G |
But you are not there | H |
Suddenly I am lonely | I |
Where are you | C |
I go about searching | A |
- | |
Then I see you | C |
Standing under a spire of pale blue larkspur | J |
With a basket of roses on your arm | K |
You are cool like silver | J |
And you smile | L |
I think the Canterbury bells are playing little tunes | M |
- | |
You tell me that the peonies need spraying | A |
That the columbines have overrun all bounds | N |
That the pyrus japonica should be cut back and rounded | O |
You tell me these things | P |
But I look at you heart of silver | J |
White heart flame of polished silver | J |
Burning beneath the blue steeples of the larkspur | J |
And I long to kneel instantly at your feet | Q |
While all about us peal the loud sweet 'Te Deums' of the Canterbury bells | R |
