Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDECDE EYou ask me for a sonnet Ah my Dear | A |
Can clocks tick back to yesterday at noon | B |
Can cracked and fallen leaves recall last June | B |
And leap up on the boughs now stiff and sere | A |
For your sake I would go and seek the year | A |
Faded beyond the purple ranks of dune | B |
Blown sands of drifted hours which the moon | B |
Streaks with a ghostly finger and her sneer | A |
Pulls at my lengthening shadow Yes 'tis that | C |
My shadow stretches forward and the ground | D |
Is dark in front because the light's behind | E |
It is grotesque with such a funny hat | C |
In watching it and walking I have found | D |
More than enough to occupy my mind | E |
- | |
I cannot turn the light would make me blind | E |
