| Can clocks tick back to yesterday at noon | B |
| Can cracked and fallen leaves recall last June | B |
| And leap up on the boughs now stiff and sere | A |
| For your sake I would go and seek the year | A |
| Faded beyond the purple ranks of dune | B |
| Blown sands of drifted hours which the moon | B |
| Streaks with a ghostly finger and her sneer | A |
| Pulls at my lengthening shadow Yes 'tis that | C |
| My shadow stretches forward and the ground | D |
| Is dark in front because the light's behind | E |
| It is grotesque with such a funny hat | C |
| In watching it and walking I have found | D |
| More than enough to occupy my mind | E |
