Francis Ii, King Of Naples Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCCDBCCBEAEAFA

Written after reading Trevelyan's Garibaldi and the making of ItalyA
-
-
Poor foolish monarch vacillating vainB
Decaying victim of a race of kingsC
Swift Destiny shook out her purple wingsC
And caught him in their shadow not againD
Could furtive plotting smear another stainB
Across his tarnished honour SmoulderingsC
Of sacrificial fires burst their ringsC
And blotted out in smoke his lost domainB
Bereft of courtiers only with his queenE
From empty palace down to empty quayA
No challenge screamed from hostile carabineE
A single vessel waited shadowyA
All night she ploughed her solitary wayF
Beneath the stars and through a tranquil seaA
