GEORGE AUGUSTUS CLOUGHA
A NATIVE OF LIVERPOOLB
DIED SUDDENLY OF STRANGER'S FEVERC

He died of Stranger's Fever when his youthF
Had scarcely melted into manhood soG
The chiselled legend runs a brother's woeG
Laid bare for epitaph The savage ruthF
Of a sunny bright but alien land uncouthF
With cruel caressing dealt a mortal blowG
And by this summer sea where flowers growG
In tropic splendor witness to the truthF
Of ineradicable race he liesH
The law of duty urged that he should roamI
Should sail from fog and chilly airs to skiesH
Clear with deceitful welcome He had comeJ
With proud resolve but still his lonely eyesH
Ached with fatigue at never seeing homeI
