Aftermath Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDCECF| I learnt to write to you in happier days | A |
| And every letter was a piece I chipped | B |
| From off my heart a fragment newly clipped | B |
| From the mosaic of life its blues and grays | A |
| Its throbbing reds I gave to earn your praise | A |
| To make a pavement for your feet I stripped | B |
| My soul for you to walk upon and slipped | B |
| Beneath your steps to soften all your ways | A |
| But now my letters are like blossoms pale | C |
| We strew upon a grave with hopeless tears | D |
| I ask no recompense I shall not fail | C |
| Although you do not heed the long sad years | E |
| Still pass and still I scatter flowers frail | C |
| And whisper words of love which no one hears | F |
