A London Thoroughfare. 2 A.m. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBCDEFGDAHIDJKL MNOPQPBQ RBDRQ

They have watered the streetA
It shines in the glare of lampsB
Cold white lampsB
And liesC
Like a slow moving riverD
Barred with silver and blackE
Cabs go down itF
OneG
And then anotherD
Between them I hear the shuffling of feetA
Tramps doze on the window ledgesH
Night walkers pass along the sidewalksI
The city is squalid and sinisterD
With the silver barred street in the midstJ
Slow movingK
A river leading nowhereL
-
Opposite my windowM
The moon cutsN
Clear and roundO
Through the plum coloured nightP
She cannot light the cityQ
It is too brightP
It has white lampsB
And glitters coldlyQ
-
I stand in the window and watch the moonR
She is thin and lustrelessB
But I love herD
I know the moonR
And this is an alien cityQ
