Between them I hear the shuffling of feet | A |
Tramps doze on the window ledges | H |
Night walkers pass along the sidewalks | I |
The city is squalid and sinister | D |
With the silver barred street in the midst | J |
Slow moving | K |
A river leading nowhere | L |

Opposite my window | M |
The moon cuts | N |
Clear and round | O |
Through the plum coloured night | P |
She cannot light the city | Q |
It is too bright | P |
It has white lamps | B |
And glitters coldly | Q |

I stand in the window and watch the moon | R |
She is thin and lustreless | B |
But I love her | D |
I know the moon | R |
And this is an alien city | Q |
