Cambridge In The Long Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEG HIHJ KLKL MNMN OPOP QRDR

Where drowsy sound of college chimesA
Across the air is blownB
And drowsy fragrance of the limesA
I lie and dream aloneB
-
A dazzling radiance reigns o'er allC
O'er gardens densely greenD
O'er old grey bridges and the smallC
Slow flood which slides betweenD
-
This is the place it is not strangeE
But known of old and dearF
What went I forth to seek The changeE
Is mine why am I hereG
-
Alas in vain I turned awayH
I fled the town in vainI
The strenuous life of yesterdayH
Calleth me back againJ
-
And was it peace I came to seekK
Yet here where memories throngL
Ev'n here I know the past is weakK
I know the present strongL
-
This drowsy fragrance silent heatM
Suit not my present mindN
Whose eager thought goes out to meetM
The life it left behindN
-
Spirit with sky to change such hopeO
An idle one we knowP
Unship the oars make loose the ropeO
Push off the boat and goP
-
Ah would what binds me could have beenQ
Thus loosened at a touchR
This pain of living is too keenD
Of loving is too muchR
