Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCDCCDEFGHIJJIKK LM NNNMNNOLPHHP

Yes the Summer girl is flirting on the beachA
With a himB
And the damboy is a climbing for the peachA
On the limbB
Yes the bullfrog is a croakingC
And the dudelet is a smokingC
CigarettesD
And the hackman is a hackingC
And the showman is a crackingC
Up his petsD
Yes the Jersey 'skeeter flits along the shoreE
And the snapdog we have heard it o'er and o'erF
Yes my poetG
Well we know itH
Know the spooners how they spoonI
In the brightJ
Dollar lightJ
Of the country tavern moonI
Yes the caterpillars fallK
From the trees we know it allK
And with beetles all the shelvesL
Are aliveM
-
Please unbuttonhole us ON
Have the grace to let us goN
For we knowN
How you Summer poets thriveM
By the recapitulationN
And insistent iterationN
Of the wondrous doings incident to Life AmongO
OurselvesL
So I pray you stop the fervor and the fussP
For you poor human linnetH
There's a half a living in itH
But there's not a copper cent in it for usP
