To A Professional Eulogist Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDAAEEFFGGHHII JJKKLLMMNNOO

Newman in you two parasites combineA
As tapeworm and as graveworm too you shineA
When on the virtues of the quick you've dweltB
The pride of residence was all you feltB
What vain vulgarian the wish ne'er knewC
To paint his lodging a flamboyant hueC
And when the praises of the dead you've sungD
'Twas appetite not truth inspired your tongueD
As ill bred men when warming to their wineA
Boast of its merit though it be but brineA
Nor gratitude incites your song nor shouldE
Even charity would shun you if she couldE
You share 'tis true the rich man's daily doleF
But what you get you take by way of tollF
Vain to resist you vermifuge aloneG
Has power to push you from your robber throneG
When to escape you he's compelled to dieH
Hey presto in the twinkling of an eyeH
You vanish as a tapeworm reappearI
As graveworm and resume your curst careerI
As host no more to satisfy your needJ
He serves as dinner your unaltered greedJ
O thrifty sycophant of wealth and fameK
Son of servility and priest of shameK
While naught your mad ambition can abateL
To lick the spittle of the rich and greatL
While still like smoke your eulogies ariseM
To soot your heroes and inflame our eyesM
While still with holy oil like that which ranN
Down Aaron's beard you smear each famous manN
I cannot choose but think it very oddO
It ne'er occurs to you to fawn on GodO
