The Veteran Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEG HIHI

John Jackson once a soldier boldA
Hath still a martial feelingB
So when he sees a foe beholdA
He charges him with stealingB
-
He cares not how much ground to dayC
He gives for men to doubt himD
He's used to giving ground they sayC
Who lately fought with out himD
-
When for the battle to be wonE
His gallantry was neededF
They say each time a loaded gunE
Went off so likewise he didG
-
And when discharged for war's a sportH
So hot he had to leave itI
He made a very loud reportH
But no one did believe itI
