T.a.h. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCBDAEFEGHHFIIJ KKJFHH

YES he was that or that as you preferA
Did so and so though faith it was n t allB
Lived like a fool or a philosopherA
And had whatever s needful to a fallB
As rough inflections on a planet mergeC
In the true bend of the gigantic sphereD
Nor mar the perfect circle of its vergeC
So in the survey of his worth the smallB
Asperities of spirit disappearD
Lost in the grander curves of characterA
He lately was hit hard none knew but IE
The strength and terror of that ghastly strokeF
Not even herself He uttered not a cryE
But set his teeth and made a revelryG
Drank like a devil staining sometimes redH
The goblet s edge diced with his conscience spreadH
Like Sisyphus a feast for Death and spokeF
His welcome in a tongue so long forgotI
That even his ancient guest remembered notI
What race had cursed him in it Thus my friendJ
Still conjugating with each failing senseK
The verb to die in every mood and tenseK
Pursued his awful humor to the endJ
When like a stormy dawn the crimson brokeF
From his white lips he smiled and mutely bledH
And having meanly lived is grandly deadH
