The trumpet sounded and the deadA
Came forth from earth and oceanB
And Pickering arose and spedA
Aloft with wobbling motionB
-
'What makes him fly lop sided ' criedC
A soul of the electedD
'One ear was wax ' a rogue repliedC
'And isn't resurrected '-
-
Below him on the pitted plainE
By his abandoned hollowF
His hair and teeth tried all in vainE
The rest of him to followF
-
Saint Peter seeing him ascendG
Came forward to the wicketH
And said 'My mutilated friendG
I'll thank you for your ticket '-
-
'The Call ' said Pickering his handI
To reach the latch extendedD
Said Peter affable and blandI
'The free list is suspendedD
-
'What claim have you that's valid here '-
That ancient vilifierJ
Reflected then with look austereJ
Replied 'I am a liar '-
-
Said Peter 'That is simple neatK
And candid Anglo SaxonB
But well come in and take a seatK
Up there by Colonel Jackson '-
