Montefiore Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABA CCDC EEFE GGHG

I SAW t was in a dream the other nightA
A man whose hair with age was thin and whiteA
One hundred years had bettered by his birthB
And still his step was firm his eye was brightA
-
Before him and about him pressed a crowdC
Each head in reverence was bared and bowedC
And Jews and Gentiles in a hundred tonguesD
Extolled his deeds and spake his fame aloudC
-
I joined the throng and pushing forward criedE
Montefiore with the rest and viedE
In efforts to caress the hand that ne erF
To want and worth had charity deniedE
-
So closely round him swarmed our shouting clanG
He scarce could breathe and taking from a panG
A gleaming coin he tossed it o er our headsH
And in a moment was a lonely manG
