Lucifer Of The Torch Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFGHHIIJJJ KKLLMMNNOOPPQQRRSSTT

O Reverend Ravlin once with sounding lungA
You shook the bloody banner of your tongueA
Urged all the fiery boycotters afieldB
And swore you'd rather follow them than yieldB
Alas how brief the time how great the changeC
Your dogs of war are ailing all of mangeC
The loose leash dangles from your finger tipsD
But the loud 'havoc' dies upon your lipsD
No spirit animates your feeble clayE
You'd rather yield than even run awayE
In vain McGlashan labors to inspireF
Your pallid nostril with his breath of fireG
The light of battle's faded from your faceH
You keep the peace John Chinaman his placeH
O Ravlin what cold water thrown by whomI
Upon the kindling Boycott's ruddy bloomI
Has slaked your parching blood thirst and allayedJ
The flash and shimmer of your lingual bladeJ
Your salary your salary's unpaidJ
-
In the old days when Christ with scourges draveK
The Ravlins headlong from the Temple's naveK
Each bore upon his pelt the mark divineL
The Boycott's red authenticating signL
Birth marked forever in surviving hurtsM
Glowing and smarting underneath their shirtsM
Successive Ravlins have revenged their shameN
By blowing every coal and flinging flameN
And you the latest may you be the lastO
Endorsed with that hereditary vastO
And monstrous rubric would the feud prolongP
Save that cupidity forbids the wrongP
In strife you preferably pass your daysQ
But brawl no moment longer than it paysQ
By shouting when no more you can inciteR
The dogs to put the timid sheep to flightR
To load for you the brambles with their fleeceS
You cackle concord to congenial geeseS
Put pinches of goodwill upon their tailsT
And pluck them with a touch that never failsT
