Villain when the word is spokenA
And your chains at last are brokenA
When the gibbet's chilling shadeB
Ceases darkly to enfold youC
And the angel who enrolled youC
As a master of the tradeB
Of assassination sadlyD
Blots the record he has madeB
And your name and title paintsE
In the calendar of saintsE
When the devils dancing madlyD
In the midmost Hell are veryD
Multitudinously merryD
Then beware beware bewareF
Nemesis is everywhereF
You shall hear her at your backG
And your hunted visage turningH
Fancy that her eyes are burningH
Like a tiger's on your trackG
You shall hear her in the breezeI
Whispering to summer treesI
You shall hear her calling callingH
To your spirit through the stormJ
When the giant billows formJ
And the splintered lightning fallingH
Down the heights of Heaven appallingH
Splendors all the tossing seasI
On your bed at night recliningH
Stars into your chamber shiningH
As they roll around the PoleK
None their purposes diviningH
Shall appear to search your soulK
And to gild the mark of CainL
That burns into your tortured brainL
And the dead man's eyes shall everM
Meet your own wherever youC
Desperate shall turn you toC
And you shall escape them neverM
-
By your heritage of guiltN
By the blood that you have spiltN
By the Law that you have brokenA
By the terrible red tokenA
That you bear upon your browO
By the awful sentence spokenA
And irrevocable vowO
Which consigns you to a livingH
Death and to the unforgivingH
Furies who avenge your crimeP
Through the periods of timeP
By that dread eternal doomQ
Hinted in your future's gloomQ
As the flames infernal tellR
Of their power and perfectionA
In their wavering reflectionA
On the battlements of HellR
By the mercy you deniedS
I condemn your guilty soulK
In your body to abideS
Like a serpent in a holeK
