In His Hand Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHHIJDK LL

De Young in Chicago the story is toldA
'Took his life in his hand ' like a warrior boldA
And stood before Buckley who thought him behindB
For Buckley the man eating monster is blindB
'Count fairly the ballots ' so rang the demandC
Of the gallant De Young with his life in his handC
'Tis done and the struggle is ended No moreD
He havocs the battle field gilt with the goreD
Of slain reputations No more he defiesE
His 'lying opponents' with deadlier liesE
His trumpet is hushed and his belt is unboundF
His enemies' characters cumber the groundF
They bloat on the war plain with ink all asoakG
The fortunate candidates perching to croakG
No more he will charge with a daring divineH
His foes with corruption his friends by the lineH
The thunders are stilled of the horrid campaignI
De Young is triumphant and never againJ
Will he need with his life in his hand to roarD
'Count fair or by G I will die on your floor 'K
His life has been spared for his sins to atoneL
And the hand that he took it in washed with cologneL
