Homo Podunkensis Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHHIIJK

As the poor ass that from his paddock straysA
Might sound abroad his field companions' praiseA
Recounting volubly their well bred leerB
Their port impressive and their wealth of earB
Mistaking for the world's assent the clangC
Of echoes mocking his accurst harangueC
So the dull clown untraveled though at largeD
Visits the city on the ocean's margeD
Expands his eyes and marvels to remarkE
Each coastwise schooner and each alien barkE
Prates of 'all nations ' wonders as he staresF
That native merchants sell imported waresF
Nor comprehends how in his very viewG
A foreign vessel has a foreign crewG
Yet faithful to the hamlet of his birthH
Swears it superior to aught on earthH
Sighs for the temples locally renownedI
The village school house and the village poundI
And chalks upon the palaces of RomeJ
The peasant sentiments of 'Home Sweet Home 'K
