At The 'national Encampment' Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABB CDCDD EFEFF GHGHH IJIJJ KEKEE KGKGG CLCLL

You 're grayer than one would have thought youA
The climate you have over thereB
In the East has apparently brought youA
Disorders affecting the hairB
Which pardon me seems a thought spareB
-
You'll not take offence at my givingC
Expression to notions like theseD
You might have been stronger if livingC
Out here in our sanative breezeD
It's unhealthy here for diseaseD
-
No I'm not as plump as a pulletE
But that's the old wound you seeF
Remember my paunching a bulletE
And how that it didn't agreeF
With well honest hardtack for meF
-
Just pass me the wine I've a hellyG
And horrible kind of drouthH
When a fellow has that in his bellyG
Which didn't go in at his mouthH
He's hotter than all Down SouthH
-
Great Scott what a nasty day that wasI
When every galoot in our crackJ
Division who didn't lie flat wasI
Dissuaded from further attackJ
By the bullet's felicitous whackJ
-
'Twas there that our major slept underK
Some cannon of ours on the crestE
Till they woke him by stilling their thunderK
And he cursed them for breaking his restE
And died in the midst of his jestE
-
That night it was late in NovemberK
The dead seemed uncommonly chillG
To the touch and one chap I rememberK
Who took it exceedingly illG
When I dragged myself over his billG
-
Well comrades I'm off now good morningC
Your talk is as pleasant as pieL
But pardon me one word of warningC
Speak little of self say IL
That's my way God bless you Good byeL
