A Dampened Ardor Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCB DEDEF GHG IH

The Chinatown at BakersfieldA
Was blazing bright and highB
The flames to water would not yieldA
Though torrents drenched the skyB
And drowned the ground for miles aroundC
The houses were so dryB
-
Then rose an aged preacher manD
Whom all did much admireE
Who said 'To force on you my planD
I truly don't aspireE
But streams it seems might quench these beamsF
If turned upon the fire '-
-
The fireman said 'This hoary wightG
His folly dares to thrustH
On us 'Twere well he felt our mightG
Nay he shall feel our must '-
With jet of wet and small regretI
They laid that old man's dustH
