Summer In England, 1914 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABAA CACADD EFEFGG HIHIJJ KAAAKA

On London fell a clearer lightA
Caressing pencils of the sunB
Defined the distances the whiteA
Houses transfigured one by oneB
The 'long unlovely street' impearledA
O what a sky has walked the worldA
-
Most happy year And out of townC
The hay was prosperous and the wheatA
The silken harvest climbed the downC
Moon after moon was heavenly sweetA
Stroking the bread within the sheavesD
Looking 'twixt apples and their leavesD
-
And while this rose made round her cupE
The armies died convulsed And whenF
This chaste young silver sun went upE
Softly a thousand shattered menF
One wet corruption heaped the plainG
After a league long throb of painG
-
Flower following tender flower and birdsH
And berries and benignant skiesI
Made thrive the serried flocks and herdsH
Yonder are men shot through the eyesI
Love hide thy faceJ
From man's unpardonable raceJ
-
Who said 'No man hath greater love than thisK
To die to serve his friend'A
So these have loved us all unto the endA
Chide thou no more O thou unsacrificedA
The soldier dying dies upon a kissK
The very kiss of ChristA
