Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDDDE FGDGDDDE HIJIDDDE KGLGCCMDCE

You ll not find the name in geography booksA
It isn t marked on the mapB
Nor mentioned in atlas or historyC
Yet you ve heard of the place mayhapB
The fairies lurk in the boreens thereD
And the scent of the black thorn haunts the airD
Where Atlantic batters the coast of ClareD
West of Fanny O Dea sE
-
Now the old folk tell in their cheerful chatF
By the kitchen fire s bright glowG
Of hurling matches or dance or fairD
Of happenings of long agoG
How the heftiest fighters came from thereD
Women and men who could do and dareD
From the very heart of the heart of ClareD
West of Fanny O Dea sE
-
From West o Fanny s the folk went forthH
To the uttermost parts of the earthI
And the forest fell neath their sturdy strokeJ
The cabin rang with mirthI
They builded homes and the faith was thereD
Living circles of love and prayerD
Far from the rocky coast of ClareD
West of Fanny O Dea sE
-
As the old folk chat at the kitchen fireK
Of doings of long agoG
The young ones smile with a tender scornL
At a well worn phrase they knowG
Now many strange countries and climes there beC
And many queer names o er land and seaC
ButM
whereD
in the name of geographyC
Is West of Fanny O Dea sE
