The First School Day Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEAE FGCG HHIH CJKJ CLHL HGMG NOIO CEIE IPQP RICI STRT

We are saddling Don and LaddieA
Mid laughter and fun and noiseB
And maybe a sigh in passingC
For vanished holiday joysB
-
And Mother is cutting lunchesD
There are only four as a ruleE
But to day another is addedA
For Baby is going to schoolE
-
You ll take her on Laddie between youF
And hold her tight at the creekG
And Mother parts with her darlingC
With a kiss on her dimpled cheekG
-
You needn t be fwightened Says babyH
I ll be as wight as tan beH
I LL give Sister our names and I ll tell herI
That Mary Beronica s meH
-
Oh the breath of the summer morningC
The gleam of dew on the grassJ
The incense of white gum blossomsK
That strew our path as we passJ
-
While Mickey and Pat go racingC
Over flats where the grass is greenL
But Eileen and I ride slowlyH
Guarding our treasure betweenL
-
She loves every mile of the journeyH
And shouts with delight at the creekG
Where under the blossomed tea treesM
The ripples play hide and seekG
-
And full of delight is the townshipN
With its red roofed houses gayO
Though Baby would love to lingerI
At the toy shover over the wayO
-
But the nine o clock bell is soundingC
From the door of the Convent schoolE
Where our darling finds to her pleasureI
Another kingdom to ruleE
-
With a brand new desk in the cornerI
A pencil and slate of her ownP
In the sunshine of Sister s welcomeQ
She sits a queen on her throneP
-
But drowsily hums the insectsR
Round the bougainvillea flowerI
And drowsy and warm in the morningC
So long ere the luncheon hourI
-
Kind Sister has drawn the blind downS
Making a shady nookT
Where Mary Beronica slumbersR
With her golden head on her bookT
