Gay balloons and coloured streamersA
Gliding figures footsteps lightB
Flannelled youths and short frocked maidensC
Jazzing gaily through the nightB
Music quaint and queer and catchyD
Lilting cadence of the bandE
Tis a scene of harmless frolicF
Youth and pleasure hand in handE
Laughter frank and merry heartedG
Careless banter burst of songH
While the red red robinI
Goes bob bob bobbinI
Goes bob bob bobbin alongH
-
Small Miss Anne is sitting dreamingJ
In the vine clad window seatK
Listening to the lilting musicF
To the trip of dancing feetK
But her vision sees a ballroomL
Where the swaying lanterns glowM
Over maidens in flowing muslinsC
Courteous gallants bowing lowM
Hear the cooing flutes and violinsC
Tis a waltz song sweet and oldN
Glide along oh riverO
Where the willows quiverO
Glide along for everO
O er thy sands of goldN
-
Ah the cruel gleaming riverO
That can sweep young lives awayP
Gone long gone the youthful loverO
Closed the boyish eyes of greyP
But the old heart wound is throbbingJ
As she dreams with cheeks aglowM
Of a dew drenched fragrant gardenI
Where the river breezes blowM
Over beds of phlox and pansyC
Waxen jasmine while and coldN
There amid the gloamingJ
Lover true are roamingJ
Hand in hand in Love s dreamlandE
Where fond hearts ne er grow oldN
-
Soft and clear the rippling musicF
Steals into a chamber nighQ
Where the dear Old Irish grandmaR
Waits her summons from on HighQ
Ready for the great adventureO
Is her gently child like soulS
For the grand old Faith upholds herO
And her life s long simple scrollS
Is a screed of shining whitenessC
But just now her old eyes glowM
As like dancing flickering turf firesC
Long lost memories come and goM
When the boys began to gatherO
In the glen of a summer nightB
And the Kerry pipers tuningJ
Made us long with a wild delightB
-
Like the horns of elf land blowingJ
Rings the distant pipers tuneT
Laughter gay of lads and colleensC
Underneath the harvest moonT
To the wind that shook the barleyC
Tripped their glancing footsteps fleetK
Ah Did you dance light dear GrandmaR
On the hearts beneath your feetK
On the daisy spangled greenswardK
Neath the hawthorn hedge abloomL
Ah The days of Kerry dancingJ
Oh The lilt of the pipers tuneT
