In Winter Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KLKM NONP QGQG

Golden and white in the garden walkA
Chrysanthemums gather their bravest showB
Mid withered blossom and wilted stalkA
Where never a rosebud dares to blowB
-
For winter is coming icy and sternC
And the grasses rank in the paddocks holdD
No plumy rushes or waving fernC
No buttercup treasures of fairy goldD
-
And on the bough of the peach tree bareE
Neath the curtained window open thrownF
All in the chill and frosty airE
A little brown bird is singing aloneF
-
Sing on little bird for the sky grows redG
And the night wind is rising cold and chillH
And Death is coming with footsteps dreadG
To the farmhouse under the lonely hillH
-
Over the mountain and down by the creekI
Stirring the rushes with icy breathJ
Waileth the wind in the tree tops bleakI
Rustling of wings of the angel of DeathJ
-
Sing on little bird from thy throbbing throatK
She smiles to hear on her bed of painL
When thou triest in summer they fuller noteK
No more will she listen and smile againM
-
Sing of the land where the roses bloomN
In the glorious summer that lasts for ayeO
Tell to the soul so near the tombN
What our trembling lips cannot bear to sayP
-
How can we tell her of brighter skiesQ
When faith seems failing and hope is fledG
God pity us all when the chill earth liesQ
Over the face of our darling deadG
