a road the timber getters made | B |
a winding dim mysterious track | C |
and we raced down it half afraid | B |

The wild hop vines grew high aloft | D |
a winter's chill was in the air | E |
and trailing sarsaparilla swung | F |
it's purple glory everywhere | E |
- | |
Then curled within a hollow stump | G |
down in a gully dim and deep | H |
we held our breaths with awe to find | I |
four dingo puppies fast asleep | H |
- | |
We stroked them trembling for we knew | J |
that somewhere in the forest dim | K |
there lurked amid the gathering shades | L |
the gaunt old mother fierce and grim | K |
- | |
The dry leaves rustled back we sped | M |
to where the homelight beckoned warm | N |
to supper time and Mother's smile | O |
and nestling near her safe from harm | P |

We thrilling gazed into the night | Q |
where twinkling stars rose high and dim | K |
above the darksome scrub where lurked | R |
the dingo mother fierce and grim | K |
