A Song Of Delight Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JJKJ ILGL HMNM OHIH

Oh Have you stolen out one summer morningA
To pick white crocus neath the garden wallB
Or shaken softly the big scented rosesC
And watched the dew drops fallB
-
Or slipt beneath the rail fence grey with lichenD
And found the little brown path to the creekE
In the deep hush of morn when all was silentF
And soft airs fanned your cheekE
-
And caught he subtle scent of earth and mossesG
Of tender water violets blue and whiteH
Or heard a little brown bird thrill with raptureI
Deep hidden out of sightH
-
Or have you tracked a coachman s whip at noon dayJ
Through spicy scrub with tropic orchids gayJ
Following its mocking whish h with eager footstepsK
Until it dies awayJ
-
Oh have you caught the breath of glowing summerI
Rich with ripe passion fruit and blackberry wineL
Gone berry hunting by the river reachesG
Where dancing waters shineL
-
Or have you seem the deep scrub aisles by moonlightH
Where scented jasmine gleamed amid the shadeM
Where moonrays lit great banks of white rock liliesN
And listened unafraidM
-
To the soft stir of unseen life about youO
Give thanks to God then for your heart is rightH
The treasure house of Nature yours foreverI
Her realms of pure delightH
