Thomas Middleton: Ix Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDCDCD

A WILD MOON riding high from cloud to cloudA
That sees and sees not glimmering far beneathB
Hell s children revel along the shuddering heathB
With dirge like mirth and raiment like a shroudA
A worse fair face than witchcraft s passion proudA
With brows blood flecked behind their bridal wreathB
And lips that bade the assassin s sword find sheathB
Deep in the heart whereto love s heart was vowedA
A game of close contentious crafts and creedsC
Played till white England bring black Spain to shameD
A son s bright sword and brighter soul whose deedsC
High conscience lights for mother s love and fameD
Pure gipsy flowers and poisonous courtly weedsC
Such tokens and such trophies crown thy nameD
